Fall Kitchen Beginnings

So the last couple of weeks I've managed to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. A friend of mine and I have got together to make oodles, and oodles of jam. Pear, peach, peach pear, plum, and pear butter, oh...and freezer grape jam. Then we also made apple pies, I have tried a couple new recipes, finally used up the remainder of the pie crust (which was being stored in the fridge) to make mini apple shaped pies. They are adorable.

Ready to bake.
I found a perfect mould at Superstore and had to pick it up. It was on sale too for about $3. I couldn't resist and the pies would make such a great finishing touch to dessert. Bonus that you only need to make as many pieces as there are people and can freeze the little mini's. They look great on a plate too.

All done.

I have yet to make some bread from a recipe I wanted to try, but hopefully sometime this week will work out. Yesterday I made cheesecake. But in honour of the change in season it is a Pumpkin Cheesecake (post to come with the recipe and review).

Pulled out our Barista machine and have been making endless London Fogs. Delicious, home made, and easy on the wallet (my favourite).

I have noticed by making all these things, and trying new recipes how much it's been expanding my kitchen. The additional spices, ingredients, and much needed 'tools' (for example I finally bought a rolling pin - took long enough but it happened) makes me feel like I'm finally having a kitchen worthy of cooking and baking in.

My goal is by trying all these new recipes, and slowly adding to my kitchen gear I'll create a wonderful collection of kitchen accessories and have what I need to get creative because I actually have the means. I was thinking the other day how I'd love to have the ability to create recipes without fear of wasting ingredients. We'll see if I make it to that point. But for now my goal is to be able to pull out a recipe whether new or tried, and not have to buy much extras, maybe just the key elements. I love the idea of having your ingredients at hands reach and only needing to buy key items. I figure long term it will save money and allow for spontaneous cooking. Wouldn't it be nice to read a recipe and say "Okay I've got everything except the ground beef"?

Well that's all. Thanks for reading.
