EYES, EYES, EYES...

So today we went to church. 11:10 am service (yeah, not sure why 11:10, and not 15 or 11), and then enjoyed a wonderful new comers luncheon put on by the pastors and some leaders in our church. What a great blessing, and encouragement to see all the new people, chat and connect a little more with those in the church. One thing I absolutely love about the church we're attending right now is the community they show and are genuinely 'carrying' and ministering to and through. I found out one of their goals this year was to get 80% of their congregation involved in ministry in some way. Not talking about going to a Bible study, or worship service but becoming an active part in those or other areas of the church. I found it encouraging and so refreshing to hear a goal like that. They have been so welcoming and active in getting us involved and helping us become a part of everything.

A couple of weeks ago we were the family of the week. Which basically means that people pray for you throughout the week. After they found out we were here to install water meters (the doing of the introducing pastor) they may have prayed that the project will fall apart and we'll have to go home - hahahaaa...

Anyway, my story is actually about my eyes. After the luncheon we took off to get my eyes checked. Yes it is a Sunday and for some miraculous reason the optomitrist was working - ON a SUNDAY!!! Things here in Kamloops like to stay closed. Sundays, weekdays after 1 2 or 3, Saturdays anytime, basically we can't figure out how these places stay in business. It's a mystery to us. I have tried to go to eat at this one restaurant here and let me tell you it has been closed EVERYTIME I try to go. And I do go at various times. Okay off topic now, so back on....

Basically after waiting and having people that were after me given my spot I finally made it in. The optomitrist checked out my eyes and surprise surprise I learned something new today. First of all pregnancy can have a HUGE affect on your eyesight. I mean it can drastically change your vision for the better or worse due to the Oxytocin. So As he started checking my eyes, after the initial first half of the test he peeks out from behind the machine of wonder and says my eyes are drastically improved. I mean DRASTICALLY. I went from 1.25 & 1.50 to .50 & .75 the prescription that I had in grade 6 that deemed me the need to have glasses.

But let's be sure, so I went through a series of additional checks, and tada seems the diagnoses was pretty darn good. Both eyes are actually .75. That's a HUGE improvement. Guess the Oxytocin during pregnancy and labor really helped. Crazy thing eh? I jokingly asked if with my next pregnancy my eyesight would improve to perfect but he laughed and well there's no guarantee.

This is good news, GREAT news actually, but the sucky deal is now I'm wearing a much lower prescription which makes all you normal people with 'good' eyesight seem crazy for living seeing the world this way. My prescription was so high I could see things way more clearly than an average person. Hyper-vision I think is what he called it. Now I have a good solid 8-10 days ahead of changing my eye's and adjusting to this way of seeing, not to mention potential headaches to follow. However, ALL worth it, especially knowing my visions getting better.

I did have one down side. Due to the high prescription and over use of my contacts at times I have developed a weird 'scaring'type thing in my eyes. Which will take about a year without contacts to correct or steroids. but still breastfeeding I get a few more months before I get to go that route. Anyway, that's the adventure of me and my eyes. I'm just in shock, awe, and well so excited about all this.

So lesson here is; if you have bad eyesight and you just had a baby get them checked because your eyesight may have changed.

Thanks for reading my rant...

  1. There is hope for me! Except probably not... two babies later, and I don't think they've changed any. :) That's pretty cool though.

I have two Aunt's whose hair went curly (or curlier) after having babies. I always wanted really curly hair, and as a girl I would hope after I had babies it would change. No luck there either!

  2. Hey maybe with baby number 3 it will happen. I wish my hair went curlier, instead I just have increased hair shedding issues. hahahaaaa.....
