Reflections of the Season

Wow, can you believe that Christmas and New Years is already gone? I can hardly believe we're in 2012 now. I still look back and am blown away by how time has flown.

Christmas was wonderful this year as we got to go down to the coast and spend 3 weeks with family, and friends. Pete was able to work while he was in Vancouver so I mostly did some sewing, had some visits, and hung out.

When we got there the first couple of days were a scramble to get things together for my side of the family's Brunch & Christmas Crafts & Decorating Day. I know it's a mouthful. It's something I started last year to have another opportunity to spend time with my family during Christmas time, build memories, and be able to just hang out play games and enjoy each other's company.

So Pete and I picked up a tree to put in my parents house, some craft items to create this years decorations, our contribution to brunch and I finished orchestrating the day by making sure everything was covered and ready to go. It was a great day.

We all arrived and made brunch which was wonderful. Pancakes, sausages, bacon, fruit, yoghurt, and of course as it was my nieces birthday there were also chocolate cake balls, and other wonderful things. After eating the kids made crafts. This year we made candy cane mice for the tree, and snowflake ornaments. The adults sat, chatted, and we also played games.

It was such a fun day filled with so many memories, laughter, and good times.

Over Christmas we all got sick with a flu. IOt started with Pete, then went to Kylun, and then I got sick. I think I probably had it the best out of all of them, and Kylun got hit the hardest as he was puking for about 3 days. This obviously affected our time available to see friends, and family, and so a lot of our visits with people either got cancelled or pushed to the end of our trip.

Christmas was also a good time. As always my side of the family got together on Christmas Eve, and Pete's on Christmas Day.

On my side we 'tried' to arrive early, a goal which is given every year and yet we all arrive between 1/2hr-2 hrs late, usually just in time for when we wanted to have dinner - although that also then gets pushed and we have dinner late. But the good thing is we're all on the same page even if we really didn't want to actually be late. Life for the CB's. :)

We shared some good food and a lot of dessert - another thing we always have 'too much' of, although some might disagree, sang carols, and hymns together, played games, and of course opened presents. It was such a good time and so wonderful to see all the many kids opening their presents, and having fun playing and spending time with cousins.

On the other side of the family we went for Christmas dinner to Pete's aunt and uncles home. It was a wonderfully warm and beautifully set dinner. The family is growing on that side since I've joined the family, and it was nice to see the effects of that. Squishier table, and having to sit on the floor at times. All signs of good things I think.

We danced, or shall I say the kids danced - Kylun took the show for a bit enjoying Irish music beyond our knowledge and showing some rythym. Lots of laughter and fun. We played games, and spent some good time in company, enjoying watching the kids play with their gifts - Kylun trying to take them away, and all the great food - also LOTS of dessert.

New Years was quiet this year. We ordered Chinese, played monopoly, and spent the time with my sister. It was such a fun and relaxing New Years.

That's my 'quick' update of our Holiday Season. Excited to start a new year and see what God has planned for us this year.

So here's to 2012. Bring it on!!!

Thanks for reading.
