Mother's Day Creations
So this year was my first mother's day. I was excited to be a part of it although I didn't really know what it meant for me yet. It ended up being a pretty good day. It wasn't crazy or like every other day, but enough to feel like I could sit for a few moments longer and have others do something for me.
Before this Sunday I kept trying to think of ideas for my mother and Pete's but could not think of a single idea that felt 'right'. We aren't always very committed on my side of the family always to do something for all the mothers (there are 7 and an 8th on the way). We do a lunch or tea but not in ways of gifts. Sometimes there's cards, sometimes a little tiny gift and other years just a hug and a Happy Mother's Day to you. With that said I knew there wasn't much pressure on my side of the family to make anything necessarily, but when is that not the biggest reason to do something? Pete's side we always do a little something. A token of our appreciation and love.
Well this year we paroled the malls, and tried thinking of different ideas. We went through the idea of teas, tea pot, chocolates, a little dish or something decorative. None of these ideas left us with much excitement. It wasn't personal enough and seemed 'too easy'.
Pete then came up with the idea (which I later found out was inspired by his sister for him to do for me) of getting a pot and painting Kylun's hand print and footprint on it for both grandmothers and me. PERFECT!
We went to work...we got the paint, sealant, the pots (self watering ones too), and the flowers. We got home and had to rush then since Kylun was nearing the border between happy and 'It's my bedtime people'. So we knew we had to get it done quick.
Success! It worked out well and although I totally forgot to get any pictures of the project completed with the flowers, but here's some pictures of the process.
Our work station. A left over pizza box was the perfect tool to assist with holding the paint and all the paint covered wipes and paper towels.
The foot (well one of them, the other one is painted on the other side).
The white pot.
A glimpse at the two pots after completion.
I think in the end it turned out to be complete success. Now for Fathers day! :$
